Holly Laws, Head of Profession for Physiotherapy
A Physiotherapist helps people affected by injury, illness or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education, massage and advice. They maintain health for people of all ages, helping patients to manage pain and prevent disease. Anyone with physical problems caused by illness, injury, disability or ageing might get help from a Physiotherapist. As well as treating patients, they can support people by promoting health and wellbeing and provide advice on how to avoid injury and self-manage long term conditions. Physiotherapists are experts in multiple specialties ranging from birth to older adults, including respiratory, neurological conditions, rehabilitation, learning disability and mental health. Physiotherapists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) with many continuing to undertake additional training to further extend their scope and knowledge. The professional body is the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
